POM (Polyoxymethylene)


- A resin with high crystallinity and superior mechanical strength. Highly resistant to oil and withstands repeated load. Due to its resistance to abrasion, suitable for gears, etc.


Overview

-A crystalline thermoplastic resin with excellent mechanical strength and scientific/thermal properties in addition to excellent moldability. A representative engineering plastic widely used for electrical/automotive/mechanical products, construction materials, and functional sundries. Better known as the product names, 'Derillin' and 'Duracon'. Also known as 'Tenak' and 'Ultra-form'.


● Features

① Continuous operating temperature = 95℃ ~ 45℃ (superior short-term thermal properties including melting point, heat distortion temperature, etc. as well as outstanding long-term durability in high-temperature air and water)
② Chemical resistance (against inorganic chemicals and oils)
③ Creep resistance (excellent creep resistance over a wide range of temperature, little deformation in various oils and chemicals)
④ Fatigue resistance (against repeated shocks or continuous vibration)
⑤ Abrasion/friction (the best of thermoplastic resins with superior self-lubricating property to be widely used as non-lubricated parts)
⑥ Superior mechanical properties over a wide range of temperature (drag/growth/shock strength is well balanced and maintained under long-term loading condition)

- As in the advertising phrase, "stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum", it has superior fatigue resistance, creep resistance, and abrasion resistance and, along with PC and PA, belongs to the highest level of mechanical properties of thermoplastic resins, including tensility, compression, and bending. When compared with PC, it has elasticity. When compared with PA, it has a good dimensional stability at high temperature and high humidity.

- As with PC, its defects include vulnerability to ultraviolet rays, generation of formalin by pyrolysis, and poor moldability such as a paralleled decomposition of a mass amount of gas in chain reaction in a short time period. POM is a crystalline and has a high melting point.
