Antistatic Agent for Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE)



- Antistatic agents are compounds used for treatment of materials or their surfaces in order to reduce or eliminate buildup of static electricity generally caused by the triboelectric effect.

- When heated, Thermoplastic polymer becomes a liquid or softens. As known, thermoplastics are PE, PP, PS, PVC, PET which have no elasticity but Styrene Block Copolymer (SBS, SIS), Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), Rubber-Polyolefin Blends have Thermoplastic Elastomer : (TPE). TPE has a physical property like rubber, but it is different with general NR, SBR, NBR products, this allows TPE to be used for injection molding, extrusion, and  the press molding process. Recently TPE has been used for automobile upholstery and trim, also other electric items require this antistatic function. In the case of SBS type materials, there are different hardness which depends on the content and molecular weight of the styrene, but when it is required a firmer hardness, just add process oil. When an antistatic agent is applied to a non Polarity Elastomer such as flexible PVC which contains DOP plasticizer, it has to have a superior physical properties of wettability, permeability, and  dispersibility.
ELAS-350 is an antistatic agent for Thermoplastic Elestomer (TPE) which give antistatic availability  when added to the  M/B of TPR, TPO, TPU and flexible PVC.


▶ Characteristics

1) Provides a superior moisture acceptability due to the low surface resistant
2) Superior dispersibility for TPR, TPO, TPU and soft PVC material
3) Superior of permeability to Thermoplastic Elastomer due to the polarity and non polarity action
4) Does not generate a blooming effect on the material surface due to the superior comparability with TPE material.
5) Permanent antistatic effect (109~1010Ω/sq. RH30% standard)


▶ Instruction of use

- When used with TPE type material (generally Pellet type), add the antistatic agent uniformly in accordance with required surface resistant of the material, first make the M/B with required antistatic agent and then use for  injection molding, extrusion, and  the press molding process. In case of flexible PVC, antistatic agent needs to be added to the powder during plasticizing of DOP providing the antistatic function.
